The Cultural Landscape of Syria - Preservation and Archiving in Times of War
February 28th - May 26th 2019

Syria has always attracted travellers looking to explore and document its rich cultural landscape: today, their photos, maps and reports are providing an invaluable foundation for the reconstruction of this war-ravaged country. The Syrian Heritage Archive Project has gathered these resources together and made them available in the form of a digital archive.
This exhibition considers the possible applications of this digital archive and makes its contents accessible to the public. The exhibition design adopts the aesthetics of digital media and invites visitors on an exploratory journey through Syria, with photos, films, objects and interactive screens.
A special exhibition by the Syrian Heritage Archive Project, a cooperation project of the German Archaeological Institute and the Museum für Islamische Kunst – Staatliche Museen zu Berlin.
The "Syrian Heritage Archive Project" is funded by the Culture Preservation Program of the German Federal Foreign Office, the Gerda Henkel Foundation, Alwaleed Philanthropie and the Friends of the Museum of Islamic Art e.V.
