Musical programme: Songs from Istanbul
We invite you to a musical journey to Istanbul. Songs and instrumental pieces from Istanbul's rich and multicultural musical history will be played. The renowned soloist Dilek Türkan will perform traditional folk songs and compositions from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. The repertoire of Armenian, Jewish, Greek and Turkish composers will be accompanied by Derya Türkan and Socrates Sinopoulos on the Istanbul kementsche, Serkan Halili on the kanun and Tristan Drissens on the oud.

Afterwards, the exhibition can be visited. Please note that the exhibition is on the upper floor of the Pergamon Museum (approx. 5 min. walk inside the building).

About the exhibition
The special presentation in the Book Art Cabinet of the Museum for Islamic Art from 16 December 2022 to 16 April 2023 provides insights into the rich textile tradition of the Ottoman Empire. Alongside carpets and woven fabrics, the lesser-known embroideries played a major role, especially in the domestic contexts of the cities. They were part of every young woman's trousseau and were kept like a treasure. The exhibition will show towels, napkins and belt scarves embellished with rich embroidery from the 16th to 19th centuries from the Borgs Collection.

Registration for the opening is required at isl@smb.spk-berlin.de.

A confirmation email will follow, which will serve as an admission ticket at the entrance to the auditorium and at the crossing to the Pergamon Museum.

Venue of the exhibition: Museum for Islamic Art, Pergamonmuseum
Bodestraße, 10178 Berlin
