15 January 2026
Dear friends of the Museum for Islamic Art,
At the start of the new year, we cordially invite you to a guided tour of the exhibition ‘Dialogue of Lines – Peace through Writing’ at the Dahlem Research Campus. The exhibition features works by Haji Noor Deen, the internationally renowned calligrapher who also designed the motif for the 2025 FMIK membership card. The special tour begins at 5 p.m., followed by an invitation to attend the closing event. The meeting point is at 4:50 p.m. at the entrance to the Dahlem Research Campus, Lansstraße 8, 14195 Berlin. The tour will be led by Klaus Koblitzek, member of the Friends of the Museum for Islamic Art.
As a special highlight of the 5th Muslim Culture Week, the Dahlem Research Campus is presenting numerous extraordinary works from the artist's private collection. Haji Noor Deen, born in 1963 in the Chinese province of Shandong, belongs to the Hui minority – a Muslim population group with a deep-rooted cultural tradition in China.
About the artist
Born in 1963 in the Chinese province of Shandong, Haji Noor Deen has spent decades perfecting his art and developing a sophisticated system of Chinese-Arabic calligraphy that combines Chinese aesthetics with Arabic script. In 1997, he became the first Chinese artist to receive a certificate in Arabic calligraphy in Egypt. Later, in 2017, he was honoured with the Ijazah certificate from the Ottoman Calligraphy School in Turkey. His works have been exhibited in over 20 countries and can be found in museum collections around the world, including the British Museum, the San Francisco Asian Museum, the National Museum of Scotland and the Harvard University Art Museum.
