Dear friends of the Museum for Islamic Art,

we would like to cordially invite you to the third Tandem Sofa on 12.08.2021 at 6:30 pm. This time, Hassan Massoudy, artist of the works currently exhibited in the special exhibition "There is a place on earth for everyone", and Karin Adrian von Roques, expert and internationally active curator for contemporary art from West Asia and North Africa, will take a seat on our virtual Tandem Sofa.

The focus is on the artist Hassan Massoudy and his unique expression of Arabic script forms, with which he has become internationally famous. How did he find his way to this style? How do artistic traditions, classifications and innovations relate to each other for him?

Hassan Massoudy's forms of writing take up sayings and wisdom from the most diverse times and places all over the world. The 2-part special exhibition at the Museum for Islamic Art and the Galerie Freiraum in der Box bears one of these quotations as its title: "Raum für alle hat die Erde" by Friedrich Schiller. This quote enables socio-political and ecological references. What moved Hassan Massoudy to choose the aphorisms, what does he perhaps want to inspire and what does he think about today when he looks at his works?
